Before Judge Simone Levine took the bench, she was already changing the way New Orleans courts worked.
As Executive Director of Court Watch NOLA, she built the movement for clean, impartial courts from the ground up. She fought to end the jailing of rape and domestic violence victims through phony DA subpoenas. She made sure the community had a voice in courtrooms that had long served the few over the many. She didn’t wait for someone else to fix it.
That’s the same instinct she brings to Section A of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
In her courtroom, justice is survivor-focused and trauma-informed. That means:
- Victims have a dedicated space in her courtroom, as required by the Victim Bill of Rights, and are actively encouraged to participate in proceedings
- Families are welcomed, treated with dignity, and genuinely heard
- The accused are treated with respect throughout every proceeding
- Court processes are fair, impartial, and ethical — no exceptions

Judge Levine has presided over hundreds of felony cases in Section A of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. Before taking the bench, she spent two years as a prosecutor and eight years as a criminal defense attorney. She's seen the courtroom from every seat at the table.

As director of Court Watch NOLA for over six years, she monitored every criminal court in New Orleans and studied best practices from across the country. She's not guessing at what works. She brought those practices to Section A and put them to work.
Accountability She's Proven Before
As Deputy Police Monitor in the Office of the Independent Police Monitor, she pushed for a stronger, more constitutional NOPD. Transparency isn't a talking point for her. It's a track record.

She's been a public defender, a private defense attorney, and a prosecutor. She understands what harm looks like, what safety requires, and what fairness actually means in practice.
