ABOUT SIMONE Levine
Safer streets. Fair on justice.
Judge Simone Levine is running for re-election because when you see what is broken in our system, she believes you have an obligation to change it. Before becoming the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Judge in Section A, as the director of Court Watch NOLA, she led the movement for clean and impartial courts. Her previous work ensured rape crime victims and domestic violence victims were not jailed as a result of phony District Attorney subpoenas. Her previous work ensured the community at large was heard, and the courts were not beholden to the few and the powerful.
Judge Levine’s leadership has been praised for creating a trauma-informed court, she understands that justice must be survivor-focused and all court proceedings must be fair, impartial and ethical:
- Judge Levine listens to victims, she has created a separate room in her courtroom for victims as is required by the victim bill of rights. Judge Levine regularly encourages victims to participate fully in court proceedings.
- Judge Levine ensures that families are respected and involved, that their wishes are heard.

Experienced & Professional
Judge Levine has presided over hundreds of felony cases as the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Judge in Section A. She has welcomed reporters and members of the public into her court to ensure her court is both transparent and ethical. Before becoming a criminal court judge, Judge Levine had two years of experience as a prosecutor and eight years as a criminal defense attorney.
Strong vision
The former director of Court Watch NOLA for over six years, a group that came to monitor all the local New Orleans criminal courts. She has researched court best practices for years and has instituted these best practices in Section A, Criminal Court where she currently presides as the Judge.
Honesty & Transparency
As the former Deputy Police Monitor in the Office of the Independent Police Monitor, she ensured we have a stronger, better, more constitutional New Orleans Police Department
Fair and Balanced
Before coming to the bench, Judge Levine worked as a private criminal defense attorney and public defender for eight years. She also worked as a prosecutor for two years. She sees justice, harm and safety from all sides.
